Tell Me No Project Evaluation:

It’s safe to say the final completed project of Tell Me No is far from what we expected it to be, but that is definitely not a bad thing. Obviously due to COVID-restrictions, we had to change it up a bit and make the story fit a digital setting where we could still shoot it. We decided to change the project to a trailer, we chose this because we realised that it would be difficult to make a two person zoom call visually interesting and excitingly edited, whilst with the trailer we could keep up the tense energy we wanted in the originally planned scene. This was a very well thought out decision by us and I think we have come out with a very good final project. I took on the role of Director as had been planned for the scene we were going to shoot, prior to filming I had to put together a storyboard for the trailer which would help guide us through shooting and help me capture an Idea of what to shoot and how to go about shooting it. We shot the zoom conversations all back-to-back o...

Camera Workshop Evaluations

Image
The Camera Workshops have been a huge help to me, to our group as a whole. It’s helped build trust, team spirit and helped us decide who is really good at which roles. Specifically, Director, Director of Photography and Editor, as well as actor of course but in the actual circumstance of doing a shoot one of us will probably not be acting. The Sitting Game: The first workshop we were tasked with doing was for a scene where a person sat down in a chair, the brief was as simple as that, it was up to us to make the story as visually interesting as possible. For our first bit of work as a team, I think it’s not that bad, rough around the edges for sure, there are parts where the footage is a bit over exposed but this was the second time any of us had used the camera so there was bound to be some technical inconsistencies. We made use of our limited set which had a large number of chairs which we used to comic affect implying that the person in the video is a “chair tester” and is sick ...

My Production Paperwork: Storyboards

My Production Paperwork: Storyboards  As Director on Tell Me No, my part of the production paperwork was to do storyboards. This has helped me visualize how I hope the finished trailer will flow in it's pace and shot style.

Bong Joon Ho Screenwriter Analysis

Image
Bong Joon Ho Screenwriter Analysis Bong Joon Ho is someone whose name has started being said by everyone recently. He took the world by storm with his critically acclaimed, Oscar-winning, masterpiece, Parasite. A tale of class in modern South Korea, with punchy satire and killer plot twists! Bong always had a passion for writing and specifically making films from the young age of fourteen. In his early childhood years, he would create and draw stories in storyboard templates, his passion for storyboards can also be seen recently as he released a “graphic novel” of his film Parasite in 2020 featuring the storyboard he drew. He was a co-founder and a part of a film club in university called “Yellow Door” where he screened and was exposed to American films which he illegally got hold of due to their unavailability in Korea. This makes sense as to why Bong’s films are so unique and original. Bong made three short films all in 1994, White Man, Memories in My Frame and Incoherenc...

Short Film Script Development Notes.

Development Notes: My call with Jane Marlow was very helpful for the development of my second draft. An overall very nice amount of positive feedback, I received notes that the elements of Humor, depiction of teenage stress and friendship were very well done and had a grounded yet whacky element to them . The main thing I have been told to develop a bit more is the scene in which Laci starts to try and figure out who stole her drumsticks, the overall feedback was that she didn't have to have a whole monologue in her head and spell it out for the audience, it also felt very out of place with the established tone and style. The rule of "show don't tell" was mentioned. We discussed an alternative way to go about doing this scene which was to have Laci bump into the characters on her way out of the building and having these realizations so we are in the same position as her, But overall very useful and positive feedback. I thank Jane once more.

TV Pilot Review: Mr. Robot

Image
TV Pilot Review: Mr. Robot: Mr. Robot is my favorite TV show of all time, I could argue for hours for the case of it being the greatest piece of storytelling ever created, every calculated twist and turn, every pitch perfect performance where every actor finds multiple ways of expressing various emotions, the punchy synth score, filling you with the same dread as the characters in the show. One of the most notable parts about it is it’s instantly engaging first episode, commonly praised for being one of the best openers of any TV Show ever and I love it too so it was a no brainer to discuss this one. The show opens with the protagonist Elliot Alderson, uttering the most famous piece of dialogue from the show “hello friend”. Elliot is talking to us, we are part of the show, a voice in his head, his friend. Elliot in the original pilot script comes off very differently, more akin to the wild internet conspiracy theorists that most hackers in film & tv are stereotyped as. This...
