  Short Film Review: The School for Postmen (1947) | Dir: Jacques Tati | Genre: Comedy | Run Time: 16 mins The School for Postmen follows an unnamed French trainee postman (Jacques Tati) as he goes about his new daily postal duties in a rural French village, it’s really that simple and that’s why it works. French slapstick auteur Jacques Tati is most well-known for his large-scale, satirical and colourful slapstick worlds in works such as Playtime (1967), Mon Oncle (1958) & Traffic (1971). Whilst here we see a Tati still starting to discover who he is and what he does. The film is essentially the early version of what would become his first feature film Jour de fête (1949). A film which fleshes out the postman character more and actually gives him a name, François. The feature also follows a lengthier main plot centred on a fair happening in the village which has an alluring influence on François resulting in a hilarious and frantic finale.   Analysis of entire news programme relevant to own project: News Programme: Newsround Episode 08/10/21 Let’s start with the structure of Newsround, I went into this with some previous knowledge on the structure of a Newsround episode, as in one of my previous blog posts I went into the structure of Newsround a little bit. The show begins with the Anchor making a silly and light-hearted welcome to the viewer, already putting the viewer in a relaxed vibe. After a brief 10 second graphic intro with the Newsround logo and jingle, the show starts with a serious story about footballer Marcus Rashford and the important work he’s been doing for people on universal credit. This story’s tone results in it being first as it would be a weird inclusion when right next to the light stories about general interest subjects.   Short Film Review: OPAL (2020) | Dir: Jack Stauber | Genre: Horror/Musical/Black Comedy | Run Time: 12 mins “OPAL” is the story of the titular young girl Opal’s curiosity that leads her to a creepy house across the street from her. When she enters the house, she meets three people who share their innermost disturbing struggles. Writer/Director/Animator/Musician Jack Stauber’s second short film was recently released on Halloween of this year by Warner Bros’ Adult Cartoon Comedy Network Adult Swim as a part of their “Adult Swim SMALLS” series, where he also released his previous short film SHOP: A Pop Opera (2019). Jack Stauber gained notoriety for his short 30-60 second musical cartoons on YouTube which feature his same signature Claymation VHS style seen here. This style helps create the false sense of comfort in Stauber's work.
